SMT Winter 1 – Avalanches Safety
1 day in the mountains to learn or refresh your knowledge of the basic security rules as a participant in a winter tour.

SMT Winter 2 – Avalanche risk management
2 days in the mountains to gain in autonomy.
Course objectives: PDF file
Prerequisites: SMT Winter 1 or good experience as a participant in winter hikes.

SMT Winter 3 – Extensive knowledge and human factor
2 days (or more) in the mountains to deepen your knowledge of risk management in winter.
Course objectives (PDF file): Revision and deepening of the contents of modules 1 and 2, Detailed analysis of typical avalanche situations, Identification of fragile layers in the snowpack, Knowledge of its personal functioning (psychological profile, pressure, perception, sense ), Concepts of leadership and group dynamics, Communicating a decision and making oneself understood within a group, Being able to decide in key passages by analyzing the risks, Knowing how to manage disturbances, Developing a culture of exchange and feedback (learning from mistakes made), Be able to organize and carry out a rescue action for comrades, Use digital tools (eLearning, planning, orientation, alarm).
Prerequisites: SMT Winter 2 or good experience leading winter hikes.

Additional practice days
Regardless of the module chosen, it is recommended to carry out practice tours in the mountains. Those tours are in principle prepared and carried out by the participants under the supervision of the guide. Additional practice days give, among other things, the advantage of of being able to adapt the program for each day according to the weather conditions.
